Talking Common Core on Mickelson in the Morning

I had the opportunity to discuss the Common Core State Standards with Jan Mickelson on WHO Radio this morning.  We were able to discuss the difference between the Iowa Core and the Common Core State Standards, the problem that exists with HF 215 with the assessment language.  Former State Senator Paul McKinley called in to share some perspective about when the Iowa Core was passed.  He said that while it did pass through the legislative process, it was rushed and many of those who voted for them didn’t actually read them.  He took issue with both the old math standards with the Iowa Core and the new ones that replaced them (the Common Core Math Standards).

We started to talk about the six reasons why I oppose the Common Core and we got through reason #2.  We take up the first hour.  You can listen above.
